In Netherlands found 8 paintings which was stolen in 1987
Dutch police showed on Saturday, eight high-value paintings of famous artists, agency ANP reported. These paintings have gone for more than 20 years ago and were discovered only this week.
Pictures Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Willem van der Feld and David Teniers disappeared in 1987 from the gallery “Noortman” in the city of Maastricht. The search did not bear fruit. Now, police discovered the paintings in the houses in the cities of Falkenburg and Valem in the province of Limburg in the south of the Netherlands.
On suspicion of involvement in the theft of paintings arrested 66-year-old resident Valema, 45-year-old German citizen and his 62-year-old mother.
Find the missing painting succeeded, after investigators received information from the private detective Ben Zeydemy, which in 1987 the owner of the gallery hired to search for the missing paintings, but quickly retracted his service, when a detective came close to the disclosure of the case.
According to the detective, and now it asked a German citizen with a proposal to blackmail the family Nortmanov to get her 5 million euros. Zeydema refused and contacted the police.
As suspected, in 1987, the gallery owner Robert Nortman staged the theft of nine paintings. The insurance company then paid him 5 million guilders. His accomplices, he ordered to burn down the canvas, but was burned down, only one picture – painted by Dutch artist Meynderta Hobbema. Others were hidden, and now the police intend to find out where they lived for 22 years and what is the role of those arrested in the case. Robert Nortman died two years ago.
According to Dutch prosecutors Wim de Brain stolen paintings were found minimized, and the two of them were severely damaged. Experts are yet to establish their precise value of the current, which is tentatively estimated at 15 million euros.
